Toyota, Honda fuel-cell cars certified

Toyota and Honda announced their fuel-cell cars have become the first to receive motor-vehicle type certification from the Japanese government. The type certification means the cars meet the new safety and environmental standards issued for vehicles powered by pressurized hydrogen and can be sold without vehicle-by-vehicle certification. "East Coast Corridor"

Combined hydrogen and gasoline station in Washington D.C.Shell Hydrogen plans to add a portable hydrogen-refueling module at an existing Shell station in the NYC metropolitan area in 2006. Shell already has a hydrogen-refueling site in operation at a gas station in Washington D.C. When another site is added between Washington D.C. and New York, the foundation for an "East Coast Corridor" will be established. The "East Coast Corridor" is similar to the California Hydrogen Highway.

World’s largest gathering of fuel cell vehicles

The world’s largest assembly of fuel cell cars and buses is on display in San Francisco this weekend for the United Nation's World Environment Day conference. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger declared climate change an indisputable threat and unveiled a plan to combat global warming by setting goals for reducing California's emissions of greenhouse gases. In April his administration released the California Hydrogen Highway Network Blueprint, which calls for a $54 million investment from government and industry over five years to increase the number of hydrogen filling stations from currently 16 to more than 50 and the number of fuel cell cars to 2,000.

Emissions free furniture delivery

Hip Swedish home furnishings retailer IKEA -- always a trendsetter -- will begin using a GM/Opel HydroGen3 for speedy deliveries in the German capital Berlin this week. Only a few weeks ago, a HydroGen3 took first place in the fuel cell class at the "Rallye Monte Carlo Fuel Cell and Hybrid". GM is a partner in the Berlin Clean Energy Partnership fuel cell project, a consortium of automotive manufacturers, technology companies, energy suppliers and politicians with the aim of promoting and advancing fuel cell vehicles and the use of hydrogen.
